St George’s Day Service

Date: 21st Apr 2013 Author: Scout Websites

More than five hundred members, parents, supporters and friends crowded the Cathedral for the annual St George’s Day Service on 21 April. A lively service, with some old favourite hymns, was preceded by our customary march to the Cathedral from the Castle Square.

After the service, we braved the rain for a get-together on the Dean’s Field, where Groups provided activities and there was our own special barbecue.

Many thanks to the organising team, to the Dean and Chapter and to all who supported this important event, including our special guests headed by our Lord Mayor. Better weather next time!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
