Chester Scouts takes data protection very seriously and will take all possible steps to ensure that information is safe and accurate and only retained for as long as necessary. We never share your data with anyone outside The Scout Association – and even then only to those who are entitled to see it.

In the case of our members, processing of personal data is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by Chester Scouts (except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, in particular where the data subject is a child).

In all other cases, we obtain consent before processing any personal data.

What we collect

We may collect all or any of the following information, if justified by your connection with Chester Scouts:

  • Your name and home address
  • Health information and details for use in case of emergency whilst you take part in any of our activities or events
  • Your current role in the Scouts and any previous ones
  • Contact information including email address and social media links
  • Demographic information such as the area of your involvement in the Scouts
  • Other information relevant to your membership of the Scouts or to participation in Scout activities

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and for our internal record keeping.  We may use the information:

  • To manage Scout activities of all kinds
  • To send regular updates via email about activities, training, funding, events and news stories
  • To keep internal membership records up to date
  • For our financial records

Security

We process personal data, whether held digitally or in hard copy, in a manner that ensures appropriate security.

We check the terms and conditions and privacy notice of any cloud storage provider, email provider, web server, online survey tool etc to ensure that personal data in our care is not compromised.

Data Subjects’ Rights

We ensure that you are able to exercise your rights as a data subject and to complain about the processing of your personal data, the handling of a request from a data subject and the handling of complaints under The Scout Association’s Complaints Procedure.

Retention and Disposal of Data

We do not keep personal data in a form that permits identification of data subjects any longer than is necessary for the purpose(s) for which we collected it. We dispose of personal data securely.

We may store data for longer periods solely for archiving purposes, subject to safeguards to protect the rights and freedoms of the data subject.

Credit card details

Chester Scouts will never ask for credit or charge card details via our website.

Chester Scouts is not responsible for the content of external internet sites. Please read the privacy policies of external sites before disclosing any personal information.

Cookies themselves do not contain any personal information, and Chester Scouts does not use cookies to collect personal information.
