Scouts mark the Coronation

Date: 24th Apr 2023 Author: David Bull

Along with the whole nation, Scouts are celebrating the coronation of King Charles III. While some will be in London, supporting the Coronation itself, many more will be celebrating locally. Across the UK, Scouts are staging and joining events to bring people together.

The Big Help Out is a national day of volunteering happening on 8 May, the Bank Holiday Monday of the Cpronation weekend.

The day’s about inspiring people to try volunteering for the first time, and will help us to recruit more volunteers.

Developed by Scouts and the Royal Voluntary Service, and organised by the Together Coalition, we want to inspire a new generation of community volunteering. Dozens of charities will be taking part and using the day to encourage people to ‘Lend a Hand; make a change.’

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
