Sandstone in Parliament
Scouts from 1st Sandstone Scout Group, based on Bickerton Hill, visited the Palace of Westminster during half term.
During a visit arranged for them by Lord Cholmondeley, the Lord Great Chamberlain, they toured the 900 year old Westminster Hall, stood at the Prime Minister’s Dispatch Box in the House of Commons, cast their votes in the “No” lobby, and followed the route MP’s would take to the bar of the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament the following week.
In a busy programme they also visited the Science Museum, took a trip down the River Thames to the Tower of London, viewed the London skyline from the top of the London Eye, and explored the 700 extraordinary exhibits at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not.
They even found time, just before leaving, to extinguish a street fire – maybe avoiding another Great Fire of London!
