New Chair for Chester District

Date: 2nd Nov 2021 Author: David Bull

Chester Scouts have just appointed a new District Chair, to succeed Neil Thornton who has decided to step down. Thanks to Neil for his service to the District – we are pleased that he remains one of our trustees.

Our new Chair is Kieran Skinner and we welcome him to this important role with our best wishes for his future work in Chester and District. Kieran has commented:

‘I am delighted to be able to join the District Executive and am really looking forward to working with our local Scouting team. Having previously been a Cub Scout, Scout and Venture Scout in Chester, it is fantastic to that see many of the amazing Scouting events I took part in, such as Chamboree, the Gang Show, Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and the Cheshire Hike, are still going strong today. These days I still try to stay active and particularly enjoy trail running locally and in the hills of North Wales. I even managed a spot of scrambling and climbing earlier this year which was great fun. With three of my children actively participating in Scouting locally, I can see first-hand the great work done by leaders and volunteers across Chester, helping Scouts do things they would never do elsewhere, develop skills for life and, of course, have huge amounts of fun!  It reminds me of the fantastic opportunities Scouting has provided me, I will never forget the Queen’s Scout parade at Windsor Castle, being dressed as a fairy at Gang Show or the fun had on many camps. So, it is great to get involved again, to be able to support Scouting locally as part of the District Executive team.’

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
