Jamboree on the Air 2014

Date: 18th Aug 2014 Author: Scout Websites

We will be taking part in Jamboree on the Air/Internet again this year on the weekend of  17/19 October at the Cestrian Scout Group headquarters in Vicars Cross, Chester. Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies, Beavers, Rainbows and members of the general public are invited to attend during the weekend. We try to contact as many Scout/Guide amateur radio stations as possible during that weekend and visitors get the chance to link up with Scout Groups across the world. This is an ideal opportunity as an alternative to your normal meeting night and attendance times are very flexible.

We have been operating our station, call-sign GB2COS, for 32 years and have spoken to over 180 different countries on short wave and also many Scout Groups via the Amateur Radio Internet linking System, Echolink. We also link in many other activities, such as slow scan television, radio, electronics and construction kits, Morse code, crafts and this year Astronomy.

We also hope to have a 3D printer on display. Scouts can also try out hand held free to air radio transceivers. We might also attempt contacts with orbiting amateur radio satellites.

There is no cost involved and we can organise badge work: the new Beaver Communicator and Space badges might be achievable at the event. A visit to coincide with a Troop meeting might be something different and may cover  an international requirement for certain badges. All visitors get one of our special JOTA badges.
