St George’s Day

Date: 28th Apr 2020 Author: David Bull

Scouts from all over Chester and District took part in an online Promise Party on 26 April – if you missed it, you can see the video. St George, as well as being the patron saint of England, is also the worldwide patron saint for Scouts who are Christians. The event showcased the activities of many of our members during the present measures against Covid-19 infection and also featured the re-affirmation of our Scout Promise.

We are proud that so many of our members turned out in uniform on St George’s Day itself (23 April), to take part in the clap in appreciation of carers who are protecting and supporting us all during this challenging time.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
