Climbing Wall

Chester Scouts have a mobile climbing wall which is available to hire. The District Youth Forum told us that climbing was one of their favourite activities to do at Scouts and we hope the wall will be used for many years to come! The wall can be hired by Scouts in Chester and District, Scouts and Guides from the surrounding areas and other organisations, at the discretion of the bookings team. The wall does not come with permit holders / instructors, unless you arrange otherwise with our bookings team.

Here’s some information on the wall

  • The wall has capacity for up to five climbers at one time
  • It comes with enough helmets, harnesses, ropes, and carabiners for twenty-four people, plus six mini harnesses and helmets
  • The wall is nine metres high and routes are set at varying difficulties. There are optional overhangs on each side for an added challenge
  • It is also possible to run crate stacking off the wall if you have your own crates and risk assessment
  • We will provide a risk assessment for the use of the wall. You will need to produce a risk assessment for the rest of your activity if our risk assessment does not cover all your requirements
  • The wall is telescopic and retracts into a compact trailer for transport
  • A ten metre by ten metre area is required to operate the wall safely

How is the wall transported?

  • Contact our bookings team to arrange transport. You can either collect the wall from our site in Chester, or request that one of our volunteers delivers the wall for you
  • Our preference is that you will collect the wall as delivery is dependent on volunteer availability and is charged to you at 45p per mile. The delivery charge is then paid to our volunteers to ensure they are not out of pocket
  • If you choose to collect the wall, your driver will need a vehicle capable of towing 2,000 kg and the correct insurance and licence to do so

What happens if something goes wrong with the wall?

Our conditions of use include a clause about loss suffered due to improper use. If you have any concerns about this, please contact the bookings team.

How do I book the wall?

  • Send completed forms to bookings@chesterscouts.org.uk
  • Our team will be able to confirm availability, cost, and make a provisional booking. For you. Your booking will be confirmed on receipt of full payment or a 50% deposit.
