| | | Gang Show 2012
Chester’s Gang Show was back for its 56th production - featuring a tribute to The Beatles, scenes from Bollywood musicals, and a piece tackling the issue of bullying- inspired by One Direction and Glee! The Show was the culmination of more than 2,000 hours of rehearsal since September by 94 Scouts aged from six upwards.
The Show entertained large houses at at the recently opened Vanbrugh Theatre at the King’s School, Chester from Tuesday 14 February to Saturday 18 February.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the Show such a success: the Gang, the production and technical support teams, our musicians, Gang Show patrons and other supporters. Grateful thanks to the King’s School for allowing us the use of their fine new theatre. The Show did us all proud; see you at the 57th production next year!
District Weekend for Adult Volunteers
We’ve booked the Welsh Scouts' hut at Cornel Farm for the weekend of 21-23 September 2012. Cornel is in the Crafnant valley above Trefriw, near Betws-y-coed.
This special weekend is open to ANY adults (>18) involved in Scouting, whether Network, Leaders, Commissioners, Active Support... Cost will be £40, which covers food and accommodation. Transport will be on a 'split-the-cost' basis between passengers and drivers, drinks are BYO.
The 'hut' is nowadays anything but, as it now boasts central heating, double glazing and other new facilities. Gentle walks are available from the door, but for the more energetic the Carneddau or Glyderau are a short car-journey away. There are bunk beds up to a maximum of 28, although camping is an option - we'll assume you're booking a bed unless you tell us otherwise. We'll be organising central catering, but activities are entirely up to you

Carol Service 2011
It was a terrible evening so far as the weather goes but that didn't stop people from all over the District taking part in the Carol Service at the Parish Church of St John the Baptist on 8 December. A lovely service, in the presence of our Lord Mayor and other guests, devised by our chaplaincy team with support from the Rector, David Chesters, and members of the District. Many thanks to all of them and to all those who braved the elements to be there!
Young Leader Training
Seventeen Young Leaders enjoyed a weekend's training at the Begg Building at Forest Camp on 25/27 November. With the support of Simon Ashton, David (Oggy) Ogden, Dan Salmon and Zoe Rees, they took part in activities (great rabbit stew, Oggy!) and looked at safety, leadership and programme planning for the Sections in which they are helping. Thanks to them for taking the time to do the training and to everyone who helped, including the visiting team on Saturday afternoon: Cathy, Richard and Iain.
Cub and Scout Swimming Gala
Well done to all our Cub and Scout swimmers at the Gala in Warringtom on 19 November. The Cub team finished joint third with Mid Cheshire. Congratulations to Christopher Hooper (18th Chester) and Matthew Cliff (1st Sandstone) who were both Gold medalists. The Cub and Scout Individual Medley relay teams were both narrowly beaten into second place.
Remembrance
Scouts from all over Chester and District attended remembrance services at Chester Cathedral and many other local places of worship. Lest we forget.
Beaver Scout Challenge
Many thanks to 5th Blacon, 1st Christleton and 1st Saltney for taking part in the Beaver Scout Challenge on 12 November - and thanks to Jason Clarke, Alan Wilding and the Beaver Scout Team for making everything work so well. Congratulations also to the 5th Blacon on winning - they will now go on to represent Chester and District at the County Challenge in 2012!
